JD Instructors Named To Mississippi Truth Project Leadership

Jefferson Davis Campus instructors named to Mississippi Truth Project leadership

Two Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College social studies instructors from the Jefferson Davis Campus have been selected to play important roles in the Mississippi Truth Project. LeeAnn Gunn-Rasmussen is the project’s Gulf Coast coordinator, while Anita Johns is the Region Five, District One Representative to the project’s State Steering Committee.

Mississippi Truth is a project intended to encourage truthful engagement that will lead to greater reconciliation and multiracial support for restorative justice among individuals, sectors and institutions within the state. It allows the state to constructively engage the confusion, division and bitter feelings related to the years 1945-1975. This era marked a time between the height of Jim Crow Laws and a post-segregation society.

The project’s goals will be accomplished through oral-history interviews, suggesting curricula in secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, and the hosting of exhibits, forums and workshops that will shed light on the time period covered in the project.
