Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will hold cheerleader and mascot clinics and tryouts March 27-29 at the Weathers/Wentzell Center (gymnasium) on the Perkinston Campus. The pre-tryout clinic and interviews will be held Friday, March 27, at 5 p.m., and on Saturday, March 28, at 9 a.m. Closed tryouts will be held Sunday, March 29, beginning at 2 p.m.
To qualify for tryouts, participants must have a 2.0 college or high-school grade point average. A transcript for verification must also be provided. Attendance at both the pre-tryout clinic and the tryouts is required. Dress in appropriate sports attire (shorts, T-shirts, and tennis shoes). Candidates will be judged on cheerleading skills (motions, dance ability, technique, spirit, and enthusiasm), overall presentation, and attitude during the clinic as well as the tryout.
The Gulf Coast cheerleading squad has been a symbol of Bulldog spirit since 1927. The squad is featured at Gulf Coast football and basketballs games as well as other Coast events. The mascot (student in a bulldog suit) has been a fixture at games and other school-sponsored events since 1985.
