College Launches New Marketing Campaign

What’s it like at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College? It’s like this…

Life-changing. Excitement. Academic excellence. Personal success. You’ll be seeing these words on billboards and in print ads and hearing them on television and on radio in the coming year.

“It’s like this…” is the focus of the college’s new advertising and marketing campaign that launched in July in George, Harrison, Jackson and Stone counties. The catch phrase, “It’s like this…,” was chosen for the campaign because of its appeal to traditional, nontraditional, career, technical and academic students. The billboards, released in the first phase of the campaign, feature successful students who are achieving their goals thanks to an education from Gulf Coast. The campaign’s messages are also featured on the college’s Web site banners.

“The new billboards are designed with the bold college colors, and are very eye-catching on the roadways. Students and personnel are featured prominently on these boards, and the strong lettering of ‘It’s like this…’ is followed by words and phrases aimed to catch the imagination of target audiences in the traditional and nontraditional student markets,” said Anna Faye Kelley-Winders, vice president of Community Campus and Institutional Development. “Each commercial ends with the phrase, ‘It’s like this…and so much more’ because Gulf Coast so many programs and services to the communities and individuals within its district that they can’t all be covered in a single advertisement.”

Television production crews began filming at Gulf Coast campuses during the summer in preparation for airing the commercials in July. Radio spots and newspaper advertisements will debut at the same time as the television commercials. Other magazines and publications will feature the new concept throughout the year.

“We are excited about this campaign especially with the authenticity of using students and personnel of the college as our spokespersons,” Kelley-Winders said. “These advertisements are a fresh, new look for Gulf Coast that will continue over the next couple of years as we look forward to our 100th anniversary.”

Within the next few days, you will be able to view all of the ads by visiting www.mgccc.edu and clicking on “About Us.”
