Perk Instructor Chosen For Adviser Wall Of Fame

Perk instructor chosen for Adviser Wall of Fame by business student organization

Lisa Courtney

Lisa Courtney, Business and Office Technology instructor at the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, was chosen as an Adviser Wall of Fame recipient by the national Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda organization. The Adviser Wall of Fame was created to recognize advisers and state chairpersons who have made a difference and have contributed 20-plus years of service to FBLA-PBL. To be considered for the Wall of Fame, an adviser must have at least 20 years of service as an adviser and must meet five of 10 criteria.

Courtney, who has been involved with the organization since the early 1970s when she was in high school in Bentonville, Ark., said she is surprised and honored by the award. “This organization does such great work with young people and gives them the opportunity to shine,” she said. “To be honored by such an outstanding organization is an incredible feeling. I became involved with FBLA as a student, and have continued to be involved as both an adviser and as an alumnus. When you find an organization that is this beneficial for your students, you stick with it.”

Courtney, who is a Gulf Coast alumnae, has been an instructor at Gulf Coast since 1985. She was selected as Instructor of the Year for the Perkinston Campus in 2007 and was the Gulf Coast faculty representative for the HEADWAE (Higher Education Appreciation Day – Working for Academic Excellence) program in 2005.

As part of the Wall of Fame award, Courtney’s name will be engraved on the wall at the organization’s national center in Reston, Va. She will be the sixth FBLA-PBL adviser from Mississippi to be listed on the wall.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda is an education association with a quarter-million students preparing for careers in business and business related fields.
