MGCCC Perkinston Campus to present “The Imaginary Invalid”


Kristen Bankston of Biloxi plays Toinette and R. Max Barrett Jr. of Saucier, plays Ardin in the upcoming production of “The Imaginary Invalid,” a French farce by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin Moliere. The Fine Arts Department at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus is presenting the play Oct. 27-29, with a 7 o’clock curtain each night in Malone Hall Black Box Theater.

The Fine Arts Department at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus will present “The Imaginary Invalid” by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin Moliere as its fall production Oct. 27-29 Curtain will be at 7 o’clock each night in Malone Hall Black Box Theater. Robert M. Barrett Sr., speech and theatre instructor at the Perkinston Campus, is directing the production.

“The Imaginary Invalid,” a French farce, is about a miser, Ardin, who imagines himself sick when he is not. Barrett says, “Ardin dutifully sticks to any instructions given to him by his doctor, and his doctors milk his hypochondria for all it is worth. He wants his daughter, Angelique, to marry a doctor so he can get free medical care, even though she is already in love with Cleante. Together with Ardin's maid Toinette, his brother Beralde attempts to cure Ardin of his fixation on doctors. Toinette and Beralde convince him to play dead, to find out who is really loyal to him.”
