Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College held its annual Spring Reception on April 21 at the Hospitality & Resort Management Center in Biloxi in honor of the 2016 L. N. Dantzler Difference Maker Award recipients. Each year, four employees are recognized for their dedication, professionalism and tireless efforts in making MGCCC an outstanding higher education institution.

Each year, since 2003, four outstanding MGCCC employees earn the Difference Maker Award because they demonstrate an exceptional work ethic, a deep sense of college and community involvement, and a tremendous commitment to students. This year’s Difference Makers are Sylvia Davis, Perkinston Campus; Bobbie Glass, Jefferson Davis Campus; Marvin Collins, Jackson County Campus; and Harry Scovel, District Office.

Sylvia Davis

Perkinston Campus

Sylvia Davis, Athletics secretary at the Perkinston Campus, has worked at the college for 22 years. She, her mother and her daughter are all MGCCC alumnae. She said coming to work each day is like coming home. She sees her co-workers as family members and feels just as comfortable on campus as she does in her own living room.

Bobbie Glass

Jefferson Davis Campus

Bobbie Glass is a purchasing clerk in the Business Office at the Jefferson Davis Campus. Also a college alumna, she has made attending MGCCC a family affair. Her daughter, Sierra, attended the college and worked as a recruiter for the college. Her son is a current student and her sister, Maria, also works for the college.

Marvin Collins

Jackson County Campus

Marvin Collins, of Gautier, is one of the happiest, friendliest faces visitors, students and employees see each day at the Jackson County Campus. Alternating between maintaining campus vehicles and keeping up the grounds, Collins makes contact with most of the people on the Jackson County Campus.

Harry Scovel

District Office

Harry Scovel works for the college as an infrastructure technician, ensuring the security systems on each campus are functioning properly and working with the cable television on each campus. A college alumnus, Scovel began working at MGCCC immediately after he graduated in 2000. He has actually worked on each of the campuses at one time or another.
