Become a Trained Drafter

The 3D Modeling and Design Technology program provides students instruction in all phases of design technology in order to prepare them for positions as designers or computer-aided drafting technicians.

Career Opportunities

When you are able to create diagrams using computer aided design, you can become a drafter in a number of fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Architectural (Commercial and residential construction)
  • Civil Engineering
  • Process Piping
  • Shipbuilding

What Students Will Learn

Instruction includes computer aided design, architectural design, civil planning, 3D-modeling, and manufacturing. A combination of class work and laboratory experience is stressed.

Degree Options and Requirements

  • Students who successfully complete a minimum of 30 semester hours in 3D Modeling and Design Technology courses may earn a career certificate.
  • Students who successfully complete a minimum of 45 semester hours in 3D Modeling and Design Technology courses may earn a technical diploma.
  • Successful completion of a minimum of 60 semester credit hours of course work in a 2-year program leads to an Associate of Applied Science.

This program leads to an Associate of Applied Science Degree and is preparatory for employment upon graduation from MGCCC. Where a transfer to four-year college or university is desired, a conference should be scheduled with a MGCCC advisor.

All students completing a career or technical program must complete a MGCCC Board- approved Technical Skills Attainment where applicable. Students should see an advisor for further details.
