Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Must be enrolled in Spring 2021 courses at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
  2. Must be eligible for Title IV aid as stated in Section 484 of the Higher Education Act by completing the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) or completing a Certification of Eligibility.  If you previously completed a Certification of Eligibility, you must complete a new one for the purposes of this grant.
  3. Must have experienced a hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

CARES Grant FAQ

What is a CARES Grant?

In April 2020, MGCCC received funds in the amount of $3,940,140 under Section 18004(a)(1) to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Section 18004(c) of the CARES Act requires institutions to use funds received from Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care).

Has MGCCC already awarded CARES Grants?

Between May 13, 2020 and June 24, 2020, MGCCC distributed $2,567,750 in CARES Grants to 4012 eligible students in varying amounts ranging from $250 – $750. On July 15, 2020, the College increased the total amount of the CARES grants awards to these students by $300 for all levels and distributed an additional $1,203,600 to eligible students.

Are CARES Grants still available to students?

Yes, MGCCC has a small amount of CARES grants remaining for eligible students.  These grants are limited in number and will be awarded the amounts of $500 until all funds are depleted.

What are the criteria to be eligible to receive a CARES Grant?

  1. Must be enrolled in Spring 2021 courses at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

  3. Must have experienced a hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

How will the remaining CARES Grants be awarded?

CARES Grants in the amount of $500 will be awarded to students who meet the criteria until all funds are depleted.  All eligibility criteria must be met prior to application submission.

Students chosen to receive the grant will receive funds during the Spring 2021 semester. Enrollment must be maintained to receive the award. Students will be notified via their MGCCC email of whether or not they receive the grant.
