About the Program

The Graphic Design Technology curriculum is a two-year program of study designed to prepare the student for entry-level employment and advancement in the field of graphic design, commercial art, media art, and web graphics.

Salary Range

In Mississippi, the median salary is $46,710. Nationally, the income range is $28,560– $83,140.

What Students Learn

Students receive instruction in the design and execution of:

  • Printed publications
  • Packaging
  • Web graphics
  • Illustrations
  • Rendering
  • Logo design

Design principles necessary to produce designs for:

  • Printed ads
  • Books
  • Posters
  • Billboards
  • Catalogs
  • Brochures
  • Other forms of visual communications

Course work references industry specifications, including the selection of ink and paper, screen printing, sign making, and other printing/binding techniques.

Degree Options and Requirements

This program leads to an Associate of Applied Science Degree and is preparatory for employment upon graduation from MGCCC. Where a transfer to 4-year college or university is desired, a conference should be scheduled with a MGCCC advisor.

All students completing a career or technical program must complete either the MS-CPAS (Mississippi Career Planning and Assessment System) or an MGCCC Board- approved Technical Skills Attainment assessment where applicable. Students should see an advisor for further details.
