At Gulf Coast, Owens initially contributed modestly, averaging 5.4 points and 4.3 rebounds as a freshman. However, she quickly found her stride in her sophomore season, blossoming into a dominant force. She averaged 12.5 points and 8.6 rebounds, propelling the Bulldogs to an 18-7 record and a berth in the region semifinals.
Numerous standout performances highlighted Owens’ breakout season. In a 74-66 victory over East Central, she posted a season-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. She recorded 10 double-doubles that season, including a 68-60 win over Northeast Mississippi where she tallied 14 points and a season-best 16 rebounds.
Her outstanding play earned her NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention recognition, along with selections to the All-Region 23 and All-MACJC teams. Owens also showcased her skills in the MACJC All-Star Game, further solidifying her reputation as one of the top players in the region.
Owens continued her basketball journey at Northwestern State in Louisiana, where she made an immediate impact as a starter. In her first year, she helped lead the team to the NCAA Tournament. As a senior, she anchored the defense with a team-leading 34 blocked shots, and the team repeated as Southland Conference tournament champions.
