ShaKarah Williams enjoying time off in her yard

Whether it’s all the fun of living in the dorms and meeting new people, going to the football games, or participating in activities around campus, the best part of my time at MGCCC has been being involved and making lifelong friends.

As a Business & Marketing Management Technology major, ShaKarah Williams spends much of her day in Weeks Hall on the Perkinston Campus.  She said that it is like a second home to her.

“My favorite instructor, and the one I spend the most time with, is Ms. Angela Butler,” she said.  “She is just awesome and makes our classroom a comfortable and happy place to be.  I end up spending a lot of time in Weeks Hall because I’m active in Phi Beta Lambda.  Mrs. Butler is the sponsor. She prepares us for and takes us to competitions at the state and national level.  PBL is a truly worthwhile organization.  It helps us learn professional skills and also teaches us about service to our community.”

Enjoying campus life, Williams is involved in the Baptist Student Union, The Barn, and Dog Pound.  She is the vice president of the campus chapter of PBL.

As a member of the Dog Pound, she makes a point of attending as many football games as possible.  “Football is something that I truly enjoy,” she said.  “I love attending Bulldogs games and supporting our team.  Our winning the national championship this year was just an incredible experience.  I cannot wait for our next football season!”

In March, Williams won fourth place in Job Interview at state PBL competitions.  She was also elected as state PBL secretary/treasurer for 2020-2021.

“I never thought of myself as being able to get in front of people to speak, but Ms. Butler encourages us to do things outside of our comfort zone.  I was very proud of myself for going to state and competing and running for state office.”

Hanging out with her dogs Lou, Smoke and Tootsie, and customizing and monogramming items for her family and friends, Williams remains busy, even when she is at home.  “I love to customize items with bling or monograms and since people know that I do it, I usually have quite a few requests,” she said.  “I also enjoyed hanging out with my dogs outdoors. They love playing games, so I know they enjoy it when I’m home on the weekends and in the summer.”

Without a doubt the best part about my time at MGCCC has been my campus involvement. While I have been involved in a number of organizations, my role as a chapter officer for PTK has not only allowed me to greatly impact my campus and my community but has also led me to form some unbreakable friendships. My fellow officers are some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and I know that without a doubt the bonds we have formed are ones I will not soon forget.
