Meghan Nguyen, a student at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus, has been recognized as a 2019 Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship.  She is one of only two students selected for the 2019 TVA Scholarship.

Winners will be recognized on stage during the All-MS Academic Team luncheon that will be held at The Muse Center at Hinds Community College, Rankin Campus on April 10, 2019.

Nguyen was selected based on the score she earned in Phi Theta Kappa’s Fall Scholarship competition. Selection is also based on leadership, campus and community service, and faculty assessments.

A native of Ocean Springs, she was also recently named a semifinalist for the prestigious Jack Kent Cook Transfer Student Scholarship. In 2018, she served as Southern District Representative for Phi Theta Kappa.

The TVA Scholarship is designed to provide Mississippi Phi Theta Kappa members majoring in STEM-related fields with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled at a four-year college pursuing a bachelor’s degree.  Nguyen will also receive a mentorship opportunity provided by TVA.
