Portraits of Gloria Giddes and Connor YoungMississippi Gulf Coast Community College students Gloria Giddes and Connor Young won first-place awards at the Annual Mississippi Honors Conference.  Giddes and Young won for their poster demonstrations during the conference, held February 7-8 at the Hospitality Resort Management Center on MGCCC’s Jefferson Davis Campus.  This is the first time MGCCC has hosted the event.

During the conference, college and university students from across the state presented their scholarly research, either orally or through poster presentations.

Giddes of Gulfport won first place for her STEM poster presentation in the Community College Division entitled “Oxidation of 9-Fluorenol to 9-Fluorenone.”

Young of Biloxi won first place for his humanities poster presentation in the Community College Division entitled “Liquor, Lust, and Lynching: The Racial Politics of Prohibition in Mississippi.”
