Cheerleaders and PerkettesMississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldog Cheerleaders and Perkette Dance Team won awards at the Universal Cheerleading Association and Universal Dance Association camps held at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa during July.

The Bulldog Cheerleaders received first place in timeout routine and third overall.  They also received a Collegiate Recognition Award and all three superior ribbons in Fight Song Evaluation, Timeout Evaluation, and Sideline Evaluation. The mascot won a superior award.

“I am very proud of our team as we had an unfortunate fall that effected our overall placing, but the team did not let that stop them,” Brittney Holley, Bulldogs Cheerleading coach, said.  “They continued on with a great attitude and won the Collegiate Recognition Award, which speaks volumes as only a few were given out during competition between junior colleges and universities.”

The Perkette Dance Team did an excellent job at the Universal Dance Association camp in Tuscaloosa, placing first in Home Routine and receiving blue ribbons for every dance in all six of their individual performance routines they learned during the week. They also received superior awards for Fight Song Evaluation, Time Out Routine, and the Sideline Routine.  The team won a Collegiate Recognition Award and one dancer, Aamiyah Hogue, received UDA Staff recognition for outstanding performance.

“Aamiyah did a great job as the UDA staff only pick one dancer out of the entire camp to highlight,” Taylor Ritchey, Perkette Dance Team coordinator, said. “I am so proud of everything this team has accomplished this past week. Their dedication to our sport, our team, and our school was showcased this week and I can’t wait to see what this season holds for this talented team!”
