Chevron presents scholarships to nine students at MGCCC’s Jackson County Campus
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Chevron celebrated their ongoing partnership during a Scholarship Breakfast at MGCCC’s Jackson County Campus on September 5, 2024. During the event, hosted by Chevron, the company presented scholarships to nine deserving students, further supporting their educational journey in Process Operations, Instrumentations and Control, and Engineering.
Zak Byrd, General Manager of Operations at Chevron Pascagoula Refinery, expressed pride in the long-standing relationship between MGCCC and Chevron. “We’ve been proud to partner with MGCCC since the inception of these programs, which now serve as a direct pipeline into our workforce,” he said. “MGCCC produces high-quality, workforce-ready applicants who are integral to our business as we develop the energy that improves lives and powers the world forward.”
The scholarship recipients represented a range of fields including Instrumentation & Controls, Process Operations, and MSU’s Engineering on the Coast program. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to support their education. Among them was Process Operations student, Tommy Beach, who shared, “This scholarship is helping me focus on my studies without the stress of finances. I’m excited to be one step closer to a career in this industry.”
Jasmen Fairley, another Process Operations recipient with some experience working at Chevron, added, “Being recognized by Chevron motivates me even more. I’m ready to apply what I’ve learned and contribute to the field.”
Caleb Garner, a recipient in the Instrumentation & Controls program, said, “It’s an honor to be part of this program and to receive Chevron’s support. This scholarship is a game-changer for my future.”
The Chevron Ambassador Program, launched in 2022, continues to encourage students, providing pathways from high school to career. Since partnering with MGCCC in 2006, Chevron has hired more than 200 graduates and offered over 110 scholarships.
