MGCCC celebrates student achievement at George County Regional Correctional Facility Graduation Ceremony

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College recognized the accomplishments of students at the George County Regional Correctional Facility during a graduation ceremony held May 18 in Lucedale.
The ceremony honored 14 students who earned their High School Equivalency Diploma through MGCCC Adult Education programs. In addition, five students received a Certificate in Commercial Residential Construction Technology, and one student received a Diploma in Commercial Residential Construction Technology.
The event highlighted the impact of education and workforce training in creating opportunities for personal growth, career readiness and successful reentry into the workforce and community.
Family members of the graduates joined MGCCC administrators and staff, GCRCF leadership and community partners in celebrating the students’ achievements.
“This day represents determination, perseverance, and the decision to pursue a better future,” Dr. Graham said during the ceremony. “A diploma or certificate is more than a credential. It represents hard work, personal growth, and the belief that your future can be different from your past.”
Dr. Bailey encouraged graduates to view education as a foundation for the next chapter of their lives. “Education gives people the opportunity to dream bigger and discover new possibilities,” he said. “Each of these graduates has taken an important step toward building a life filled with purpose, stability and opportunity, and we are proud of what they have accomplished.”
The college-level Commercial and Residential Construction Technology program at GCRCF is in its second year and is supported through a partnership between MGCCC and the Lowe’s Foundation Gable Grant program. High school equivalency courses are offered through MGCCC Adult Education at correctional facilities across the college’s service area.
Through these programs, MGCCC continues its commitment to expanding access to education and workforce training for underserved populations while helping students gain the skills needed for successful reentry and long-term career opportunities.
