A 1975 graduate of St. Martin High School, Valerie attended the Perkinston Campus from 1975 to 1977, where she quickly made her mark as a student leader. She served on the Perk Student Council, contributed to the Perkolator Yearbook Staff, and was a member of the Harrison Hall Dorm Council. Whether through campus events or late-night dorm activities, her enthusiasm and leadership helped create a vibrant, connected student community.
After leaving MGCCC, Valerie continued her academic journey at Delta State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in education, and later a degree in Educational Administration from William Carey University. Along the way, she married her husband, Richie Martino, who also attended the Perkinston Campus and graduated in 1978 with an associate’s degree in Drafting & Design. Together they raised two children, Travis and Brandi—both of whom followed in their parents’ footsteps by attending MGCCC’s Perkinston Campus. Brandi has also continued her service to the college, working at MGCCC since 2014.
Valerie’s career in education spans 43 years, beginning at Mercy Cross High School in 1980. By 1983, she returned home to St. Martin East Elementary as a PE teacher, beginning a long and meaningful tenure with the Jackson County School District. Her passion for students and strong leadership skills propelled her into administrative roles, including Principal of St. Martin East Elementary in 2000 and St. Martin Upper Elementary in 2005. She led with resilience and compassion through the challenges of Hurricane Katrina and beyond.
Valerie’s dedication has been recognized with honors such as St. Martin Administrator of the Year (2012, 2021) and Jackson County School District Administrator of the Year (2012).
MGCCC proudly recognizes Valerie Meaut Martino as the 2025 Alumni Hall of Fame honoree for the Perkinston Campus—a shining example of how one alumna’s impact can ripple through generations.
