Kittrell starred for Gulf Coast during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, helping the Bulldogs claim the MACJC South Division championship in both years. Her individual performance matched the team’s success, as she earned All-MACJC honors in both 2012 and 2013 and was named All-Region 23 in 2013.

An outstanding defensive player at third base, Kittrell received Gulf Coast’s Best Defensive Award in 2012. She was equally valuable at the plate, serving as the Bulldogs’ leadoff hitter while bringing a combination of speed, power and consistency to the lineup.

Former head softball coach Kenneth Long remembered Kittrell as one of the most well-rounded players to wear a Gulf Coast uniform.

“Lea was one of the best players we’ve ever had at Gulf Coast,” Long said. “She was our leadoff hitter but could have hit second or third in the order if we needed her to. She had good power and could run. And she was outstanding defensively. I can’t remember very many people, if any, bunting for a hit on us when Lea was at third base.”

After completing her Gulf Coast career, Kittrell continued playing at Spring Hill College, earning SSAC All-Conference and ICAA All-Conference honors in 2014.

Kittrell’s combination of individual excellence and championship success left a lasting mark on Gulf Coast softball. Her two All-MACJC selections, All-Region 23 recognition and role in consecutive division championships secure her place among the outstanding student-athletes in Bulldog history.
