Their daughter, Julie Bond Miller, continued the family’s tradition of campus involvement at the Jackson County Campus from 1990-92, earning honors as Class Favorite and Homecoming Maid.

Today, that tradition continues through a third generation. Julie’s daughters, Marleigh Savell and Addison Miller, have both excelled as honors students and MGCCC cheerleaders at the Perkinston Campus. Marleigh was enrolled from 2017-19, while Addison is currently cheering for the Bulldogs as she pursues her education.

Reflecting on her family’s connection to the college, Julie said, “Both my parents attended MGCCC and started a tradition of both education and campus participation. We are all proud of our time at MGCCC.”

Julie added that education is important to her family and she’s happy they have continued their educational pursuits throughout their lives. “My daughter Marleigh and I both went on to pursue master’s degrees, and my younger daughter plans to outshine us both.”

For Julie, being an MGCCC alumna is about much more than earning a degree.

“It means being a part of something,” she said. “It means setting high academic standards and understanding that you have a responsibility to participate and to contribute. It means being proud of where you come from and proud of what you have accomplished.”
