Fisher, a Long Beach resident, wife and mother of two, recently received the Biloxi Regional Medical Scholarship for the Fall 2026 semester through the MGCCC Foundation. She is entering Level 3 of the college’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program this fall.
Her path to nursing has been shaped by years of serving others through behavioral therapy, caring for a medically complex child and working in hospice care.
“My desire to pursue a nursing career stemmed from my long-standing passion for helping others,” Fisher said. “Before entering the ADN program at MGCCC, I earned my behavioral therapist license, nannied for a medically complex child and worked in hospice care. My love for these experiences drove me to further my education and obtain my nursing degree.”
After graduation, Fisher hopes to work with children before continuing her education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
“I am keeping an open mind and praying that God places me exactly where He wants me, but I have a special place in my heart for mothers and babies,” she said. “I would also love to pursue my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at The University of Southern Mississippi on the coast. I never want to stop learning.”
Balancing college while raising a 5-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son has not always been easy, but Fisher said the encouragement she has received from MGCCC faculty and staff has made all the difference.
“There have been many times when I did not think I was going to be able to continue my education, but the staff have always been my biggest cheerleaders,” she said. “There has not been one person at MGCCC who would not bend over backwards to make sure I reach my goal of graduating.”
Receiving the Biloxi Regional Medical Scholarship has eased the financial burden on her family and brought her one step closer to achieving that goal.
“This scholarship has been a true blessing to me,” Fisher said. “It’s relieved my family of a financial burden that I otherwise would not have been able to afford. It has given me the opportunity to grow one step closer to graduating in May. My hope is that I can pay it forward one day.”
Fisher hopes her journey will encourage other women, especially mothers, to pursue their dreams.
“I just want to inspire other women interested in nursing, especially mothers, and show them that their dream is attainable,” she said. “There are people out there who want to see them succeed and are willing to help them achieve their goals. I want my children to see that you can achieve anything you put your mind to.”
Thanks to the generosity of alumni, businesses and community partners, MGCCC Foundation scholarships help students like Sara Fisher overcome financial barriers, complete their education and prepare to serve the Mississippi Gulf Coast as the next generation of healthcare professionals.
