The Rural Community College Alliance, the nation’s largest organization of rural-serving community, technical and tribal colleges, has named John Shows, associate vice president of Community Campus and Career-Technical Education at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, the 2015 Innovator of the Year.

This prestigious national award was presented to Shows on September 24 during the RCCA national conference in Reno, Nevada.

Shows and other winners were honored at an awards luncheon during the conference. Community colleges from across the United States, federal agencies, and partner businesses and industries were represented at the event.

The Innovator of the Year award is presented to an employee at a rural community, technical or tribal college who exemplifies service, ideas, and commitment to rural higher education and rural communities. The Rural Community College Alliance represents 600 rural college districts across the nation.
