Military Friendly School Top 10 logo and Military Spouse Friendly School Top 10 logoMississippi Gulf Coast Community College has again been named to the Military Friendly School and Military Spouse Friendly School Top 10 list for 2023-2024.  Institutions earning these designations were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. Over 1,800 schools participated in the 2023-2024 survey. Of those schools, only 250 were selected for the gold award status for their leading practices, outcomes, and effective programs.  MGCCC is the only community college in Mississippi to make it to the Top 10.

This is the 14th year the college has been selected as a Military Friendly School and the fifth time the college has been listed on the Top 10 List.  Since 2020, the college has been ranked as the No. 1 school twice.

This year, MGCCC was ranked third in the Large Community College category for Military Friendly Schools and Military Spouse Friendly Schools.

“Our active-duty military, veterans, along with their spouses and dependents, make immense sacrifices for our nation, ensuring our safety and freedom,” said Dr. Mary S. Graham, MGCCC president. “It is a profound honor for our institution to reciprocate by offering them outstanding and convenient opportunities in pursuing their educational goals.”

MGCCC was ranked in six categories, exceeding standards on all of them. They are Academic Policies & Compliance, Admissions & Orientation, Culture & Commitment, Financial Aid & Assistance, Graduation & Career, and Military Student Support & Retention.

MGCCC provides a wide variety of services to active-duty military personnel and veterans.  The college assists its military students in scheduling courses around temporary duty assignments and interruptions for deployment. The institution’s military withdrawal policy ensures military students avoid any hardships when called into active duty.  Additionally, the college offers military-base campus representatives to provide one-stop shop services, including priority registration assistance, degree evaluations, and book services.  MGCCC also provides a VA school certifying official (SCO) to meet the needs of veterans, military spouses, and military dependents.  Enrollment specialists at campus locations coordinate the review of transfer credit/military credit.  Finally, active-duty military students and veterans receive in-state tuition.
