MGCCC Employees Invited to Participate in New AI Courses through MAIN Initiative
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) is thrilled to announce its participation in the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN), the nation’s first statewide artificial intelligence (AI) initiative. Created in partnership with AccelerateMS, Intel, and Dell, MAIN aims to meet the growing demand for AI skills in Mississippi’s workforce. As part of this initiative, MGCCC employees are invited to participate in AI courses in a “Train the Trainer” format.
The courses, led by Dr. Kollin Napier, an MGCCC employee and Director of MAIN, include Intro to AI, AI for Manufacturing, and Intro to GenAI. Developed through Intel’s Digital Readiness AI for Workforce program, these courses have been adapted for the Canvas platform.
“We are thrilled to offer MGCCC employees the opportunity to gain valuable insights into AI through these courses,” said Dr. Napier. “We are committed to empowering our employees with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the digital economy.”
The courses cover fundamental AI concepts, applications, historical evolution, current trends, future implications, practical usage, hands-on activities, ethical considerations, and societal impacts. Utilizing “no-code” tools, they require no prerequisites, making them accessible to those without prior programming skills or a background in computer science.
“Empowering our employees with AI skills enhances their professional growth, fuels innovation, and propels Mississippi’s economic development,” added Dr. Napier.
MAIN was established in partnership with all 15 community colleges and several major universities in Mississippi. The Intro to AI course first launched in Spring 2024 to a select audience, with each partner institution hosting a dedicated instance of the course on its platform. Beginning July 1, 2024, this course, along with AI for Manufacturing and Intro to GenAI, will be available to all MGCCC employees and the overall workforce. Additional courses will be gradually introduced to Canvas throughout the year.
This initiative underscores MGCCC’s commitment to providing high-quality education and training opportunities to its employees, ensuring they remain at the forefront of technological advancements and are prepared to meet the evolving needs of the workforce.
