Dr. Kollin Napier, Director of the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN), has received the Rising Star Manager Award from the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The prestigious honor was presented during the AACC Awards of Excellence Gala, held April 12-16 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Rising Star Manager Award recognizes emerging leaders in the community college system who have made exceptional contributions through innovation, leadership, and dedication to student and institutional success. Dr. Napier stood out nationally for his groundbreaking work advancing artificial intelligence (AI) integration across Mississippi’s community colleges and several four-year institutions.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by AACC, but this award is truly a reflection of the amazing team I work with at MGCCC and across the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network,” said Dr. Napier. “Together, we are building a stronger, smarter future for our students by making artificial intelligence more accessible, more practical, and more impactful across all areas of learning.”

As Director of MAIN, Dr. Napier has played a pivotal role in establishing Mississippi’s first statewide AI network within the community college system. Under his leadership, MGCCC has emerged as a hub for innovation, creating specialized AI courses, workshops, and partnerships that give students hands-on experience with the technologies shaping the future workforce.

Among his notable accomplishments:

  • Development of AI-driven programs and curriculum that enhance student learning outcomes
  • Formation of strategic partnerships with industry leaders and academic institutions
  • Increased student engagement and enrollment in AI and STEM disciplines
  • Successful coordination and expansion of the MAIN initiative statewide

Dr. Napier’s visionary leadership and collaborative approach have not only elevated MGCCC’s AI capabilities but also contributed to the broader mission of preparing students for careers in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

“We are incredibly proud of Dr. Napier’s achievements and his well-deserved recognition,” said Dr. Mary S. Graham, MGCCC President. “His work is a shining example of how innovation and leadership can transform educational opportunities and outcomes for our students.”
