The Willis H. Lott Learning Resources Center has partnered with the Mississippi Humanities Council to host a family literacy program at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus. PRIME TIME FAMILY READING TIME® will be held in Malone Hall at MGCCC’s Perkinston Campus each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. starting on February 15 and ending on April 5.

The program targets children ages 6-10 and their parents to foster a lifelong love of learning through reading. PRIME TIME is a six-week series of reading and discussion programs, and includes sessions on such themes as fairness, greed, courage, cleverness, and determination. A discussion leader and a storyteller will introduce parents to the benefits and pleasures of reading and discussing stories with their children. The program aims to expand participants’ understanding of reading through the use of children’s literature with substantial humanities content.

There is no cost to attend. Food, door prizes, and gift books are included. Fun story times that encourage early reading skills for 3- to 5-year-old siblings are also offered.
