Welcome to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College! We’re excited you’re interested in taking classes with us as a Transient (Visiting) Student.

A Transient (Visiting) Student is a student actively pursuing a credential at another college or university who wants to take one or more classes at MGCCC for a single semester (fall, spring, or summer) to transfer those credits back to their home institution.

This differs from a Transfer Student, who enrolls at MGCCC with the intention of completing a credential with the College.

Steps To Enroll

Step 1: Apply for Admission

Complete the MGCCC Admissions Application and select Transient as your student type.

Step 2: Submit Transcript

Submit an official transcript or a letter of good standing from your home institution to verify eligibility and prerequisites. You can submit transcripts by:

  • Delivering them in person to an Enrollment Services Center*
  • Requesting your institution to send them directly to the Admissions Office
  • Submitting a request through a third-party credential service such as Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, or Scribbles

*Physical transcripts are considered official only if they remain sealed in the original envelope from the issuing institution

Step 3: Provide Proof of Prerequisites

Provide proof of prerequisites or ACT subscores, if required. Students must show adequate documentation of successful completion in the prerequisite or submit official ACT score reports.

Registration Information

  • Transient (Visiting) Students must have an official transcript in progress (showing future registration) or a letter of good standing on file before registering for courses.
  • Once your documentation is received, your record will be updated and registration access unlocked.
  • Registration is limited to the semester of admission.
    • To continue beyond one semester, students must reapply as a Transfer.
    • Students who plan to take courses for consecutive semesters must submit a completed official transcript, complete a new admission application, and be admitted as a Transfer Student to meet applicable requirements.

Important Information for Transient (Visiting) Students

  • MGCCC will provide an official transcript of your completed coursework upon request to be sent back to your home institution.
  • Financial aid is not awarded by MGCCC for Transient (Visiting) Students. Please consult your home institution regarding aid eligibility.
  • Students who fail to submit required documentation by the published deadline will have a registration hold placed and may be administratively withdrawn from courses.
