Transfer Student
Welcome to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College! We’re excited you’re considering continuing your education with us.
A Transfer Student is a student who has previously attended another college or university and plans to enroll at MGCCC to continue coursework or complete a credential with the College.
This differs from a transient student who intends to take one or more classes for a single semester to transfer back to their home institution. Students currently attending a 4-year university who wish to transfer to MGCCC to complete an associate degree should review information about Reverse Transfer.
Students transferring to MGCCC must complete an admissions application and submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities so that coursework can be evaluated for transfer credit.
Steps to Enroll
To enroll as a Transfer Student at MGCCC, please complete the following steps:
Step 1: Complete the MGCCC Admissions Application
Submit the online admissions application and select Transfer Student as your student type.
Step 2: Submit Official College Transcripts
Provide official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities. Transcripts may be submitted by:
- Delivering them in person to an Enrollment Services Center*
- Requesting your institution to send them directly to the MGCCC Admissions Office
- Submitting a request through a third-party credential service such as Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, or Scribbles
*Physical transcripts are considered official only if they remain sealed in the original envelope from the issuing institution.
Step 3: Provide Additional Documentation if Needed
Some programs may require documentation, placement scores, or proof of prerequisites. For example, nursing programs may require entrance exam scores or prerequisite coursework. To locate requirements, follow the degree pathway in the college catalog or contact the Enrollment Services Center.
Step 4: Meet with an Enrollment Specialist
Once transcripts are received and evaluated, students should connect with an Enrollment Specialist for assistance with course selection, degree planning, and Registration Pin.
Meetings with enrollment specialists may be conducted in person or virtually, via video call. This helps ensure the cyber safety and security of our students.
Step 5: Register for Classes
Once advised, students can register for classes through their Schedule Planner located in MyGulfCoast under the Review Class Schedule drop down menu.
Registration Information
- Transfer students must have official college transcripts on file before transfer credit can be evaluated.
- Once transcripts are received and reviewed, an advisor can help determine which courses apply toward the student’s MGCCC degree program.
- Registration dates and deadlines vary each semester. Students should review the academic calendar for important dates.
After successfully registering for courses, transfer students should review Degree Works in MyGulfCoast to confirm their classes apply to their MGCCC degree program. Degree Works provides an easy-to-read worksheet that shows how transferred, completed, current, and planned courses count toward degree requirements.
Important Information for Transfer Students
- MGCCC will evaluate prior college coursework to determine how credits transfer toward your chosen program of study.
- Some credits may transfer as elective coursework if they do not directly match MGCCC course requirements.
- Certain academic programs may have additional admission requirements or prerequisite courses.
- Students are encouraged to meet regularly with their academic advisor to stay on track toward graduation.
