In Honor of Those Who Have Fought for Our Country

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Perkinston Campus is hosting a Veterans Day Tribute at noon on Friday, November 10, at the flag pole. The event is free and open to the public.

During the event, there will be a ceremonial raising of the flag by a military color guard, performances by Mississippi Sound and the Perkette Dance Team and a Band of Gold parade. In Heidelberg Hall (cafeteria), there will also be an Employee/Student Military Honor Wall and a Fallen Soldier Table that will be displayed throughout the month. November 10 is Fried Fish Friday for $5, so plan to stay and eat lunch. Additionally, there is a display, “Honoring Our Veterans: Past & Present,” in the Learning Resource Center and “A Shadow Soldiers Under the Oaks” display on exhibition throughout the month of November.

“We are very proud of the veterans we have working and attending MGCCC,” said Shellye Smith, Support Services coordinator and V.A. certifying official at the Perkinston Campus. “Their service and sacrifice does not go unnoticed, and we want to let them know that.”

Smith said the Phi Theta Kappa chapter on campus is also holding a Homeless Veteran Toiletries Drive November 1-10. Boxes will be located throughout the Perkinston Campus. Items should be travel size and may include wet wipes, toothpaste, shave kit, brush, shampoo and conditioner.
