Dr. Janey Mattina, speech instructor at MGCCC’s Jefferson Davis Campus, was named to Mississippi College’s Sports Hall of Fame in April. A 1991 graduate of MC, Mattina was selected for the Hall of Fame because of her stellar career in volleyball while at the college.

Mattina was recruited by MC for the volleyball team after playing at Biloxi High School.  She joined the MC volleyball program while it was only two years old and helped build it into a successful team. She served as captain for three of four years, she was voted “Most Valuable Player” in 1989, selected to the all-Gulf South Conference (GSC) team, all GSC tournament team, and all GSC academic team. She also served as a graduate assistant coach earning her Master’s degree in 1992. Later, she received a Ph.D. in Communications Studies and Theory from The University of Southern Mississippi.

Mattina, a fifth generation Biloxian, has taught at MGCCC for seven years.
