Accepting the Mississippi Association of Partners in Education Governor’s Award for Outstanding School District and Community-Wide Partnership are, from left, Dr. J.J. The group won for is efforts as part of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee in working to help Jackson County become a National Workforce Ready Community and preparing high school students to become highly qualified employees.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College was recognized for contributions to education at Jackson County’s four school districts at the annual Mississippi Association of Partners in Education (MAPE) awards ceremony held on March 6 at Hattiesburg’s Lake Terrace Convention Center.  As part of the Jackson County Chamber Education Issues Group, the college was honored for Outstanding Community Partnership for Jackson County becoming a National Work Ready Community.

Other partners include Singing River Health System, Jackson County Economic Development Foundation, Pascagoula Adult Learning Center, Jackson County Utility Authority, William Carey University, The University of Southern Mississippi, WIN Job Center, Goodwill, Get2College, Chevron, Ingalls Shipbuilding, Mississippi Power and the YMCA.

Jason Ferguson, dean of Business Services at the Jackson County Campus, represented MGCCC at the conference.

“This is a great example of what can be accomplished when we work together for the benefit of students in our county,” he said. “We are so proud to be a part of this outstanding partnership.”
