MGCCC’s Dr. Emma Miller completes Leadership Jackson County program

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College congratulates Dr. Emma Miller, Dean of Teaching & Learning at the college’s Jackson County Campus, on her recent graduation from Leadership Jackson County. The graduation ceremony was held on October 16 at Gulf Hills Resort in Ocean Springs.
Sponsored by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, the Leadership Jackson County Program is designed to identify, educate, and motivate existing and emerging leaders to become involved in shaping the future of Jackson County. Participants are selected from diverse sectors, including government, industry, education, healthcare, small business, and nonprofit organizations, and engage in courses that build community awareness and strengthen leadership skills.
“Completing Leadership Jackson County has been an incredible experience that deepened my understanding of our community and strengthened my connections with local leaders,” said Dr. Miller. “I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned back to MGCCC to further support our students and continue building partnerships that benefit Jackson County.”
A proud MGCCC alumna, Dr. Miller graduated from the college in 2000 before earning her bachelor’s degree from The University of Southern Mississippi and a doctorate in Instructional Design and Development from the University of South Alabama. She began her career at MGCCC as a mathematics instructor at the Jackson County Campus, where she was named Instructor of the Year in 2018. She is also a recipient of the Phi Theta Kappa International Distinguished Alumni Award and MGCCC’s Innovator’s Award. Under her leadership at the Harrison County Campus, MGCCC earned national recognition as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense from the National Security Agency and achieved successful reaccreditation for Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts programs through the American Culinary Federation.
