Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College welcomed nearly 700 high school students to its Harrison County Campus on February 12 for “Experience CTE for the 21st Century,” an interactive showcase featuring more than 50 career and technical education (CTE) programs.

The event gave students hands-on exposure to one- and two-year programs designed to prepare graduates for high-paying, high-demand careers or provide pathways to university transfer and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.

Students participated in interactive demonstrations and explored programs in healthcare, engineering, information technology, culinary arts, automotive technology and other workforce-driven fields. Faculty members and industry-aligned instructors were on hand to answer questions and guide students through practical learning experiences.

Dr. Zach Moulds, Associate Vice President of Student Services & Enrollment Strategies, said the event highlights the college’s commitment to access and opportunity. “This is one of the largest opportunities in our region for students to explore career pathways in such a direct and engaging way,” Moulds said. “They are able to step into real learning environments, interact with instructors and see firsthand how these programs translate into careers.”

Moulds emphasized that many of the featured programs can be completed in as little as one to two years and are aligned with workforce demand across South Mississippi. “These are meaningful programs that lead to strong wages and long-term career growth,” he said. “We are focused on providing training that meets employer needs while giving students the skills and confidence to succeed immediately after graduation.”

MGCCC works closely with industry partners to ensure students graduate prepared for today’s workforce. “We are intentional about closing workforce gaps in our region,” Moulds added. “Our partnerships with local employers help ensure that when students complete these programs, they are well trained and ready to contribute on day one.”
