Holloway’s football journey began in the 9th grade on the junior varsity team at Notre Dame High School in Biloxi, Mississippi. By his sophomore year, he was playing varsity as a tackle and linebacker, helping lead Notre Dame to three consecutive 8-2 seasons and appearances in two high school bowl games.
His impressive high school career earned him a football scholarship to Perkinston Junior College, where he joined the Bulldog program in 1965. Over two standout seasons, he played both offensive guard and linebacker, making a name for himself as a tough, disciplined, and versatile player. He was a key contributor to the Bulldogs’ 1966 state championship run and was later honored by Coach George Sekul as a member of his Offensive Team of the Decade.
Holloway’s talent attracted offers from both Delta State University and Wichita State University during his sophomore year. He initially accepted Wichita State’s offer, recruited by none other than Jimmy Johnson, who would later lead the University of Miami and the Dallas Cowboys to national prominence. After a semester at Wichita, Holloway followed his instincts back to Mississippi and completed his collegiate playing career at Delta State, continuing at offensive guard and linebacker.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Delta State in 1969 and returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to begin a successful career in banking. In 1975, he accepted a position with First Natchez Bank (later United Mississippi Bank) and eventually transitioned into public service. In 2000, he was elected City Clerk of Natchez, a role he faithfully held for 16 years until his retirement in 2016.
Donnie Holloway’s dedication to excellence—on the field, in business, and in public service—exemplifies the true Bulldog spirit.
