As one of just four freshmen on the 2008 squad, Lawrence made an immediate impact. She notched an RBI triple in a 4-2 win over Faulkner State and followed with two hits in a 12-1 rout of Jeff Davis. Her bat continued to produce throughout the season, with highlights including a three-hit performance in a 3-0 victory over Southwest and two-run triples in wins over Pearl River and Copiah-Lincoln. Gulf Coast went on to finish 32-11, ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA, and reached the Region 23 Tournament, narrowly missing a national tournament berth.
In 2009, as one of only five sophomores on a team loaded with 19 freshmen, Lawrence led a young but hungry Bulldog team to a postseason run that ended on the national stage. She was a force at the plate, racking up multi-hit games in key contests, including three hits in both games of a doubleheader sweep of Jones. She was batting an eye-popping .469 heading into the postseason.
Lawrence delivered again when it mattered most. In the Region 23 Tournament, she had two hits in a 5-2 win over LSU Eunice and was instrumental in a dramatic 5-4 win over that same team in the championship round. Her RBI double tied the game in the seventh, and she later scored the go-ahead run after screening the shortstop on a single. The Bulldogs punched their ticket to the NJCAA Division II National Championship in Normal, Illinois, where Lawrence recorded two hits in the opener, three hits in a thrilling nine-inning win over Johnson County, and two more in a season-ending loss to Iowa Central.
Lawrence finished her sophomore season with a .426 batting average, 16 RBI, and 40 runs, earning All-MACJC, All-Region 23, and NJCAA All-American Third Team honors. She continued her collegiate career at McNeese State, playing in 69 games over two seasons.
