As a freshman in 2012, Puyol clinched the MACJC No. 2 singles title with a 7-4 (6-4), 6-4 victory over Jones College’s Nick Williams. His performance helped push the Bulldogs to a third-place finish at the Region 23 Tournament and earned the team its first berth at the NJCAA Tournament since 2004. Competing in Plano, Texas, the Bulldogs wrapped up the season ranked 22nd in the nation.
The following year, Puyol was a key contributor to one of the most dominant seasons in program history. Gulf Coast posted a perfect 12-0 regular-season record in 2013, sweeping both the MACJC and Region 23 titles — the program’s first region championship since 2002. Puyol claimed the No. 3 singles championship with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hinds’ Yevheniey Horbik and partnered with Nick Georgian to secure the No. 2 doubles crown.
The Bulldogs didn’t drop a single court at the Region 23 Tournament, sweeping all nine matches. Puyol added another title to his name with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 singles final and teamed again with Georgian to win the doubles championship 6-2, 6-4. MGCCC capped the season with a 16th-place finish at the NJCAA Championships in Plano.
After his standout career at Gulf Coast, Puyol continued his academic and athletic journey at Belhaven University, where he earned All-Academic honors from the Southern States Athletic Conference and posted a 10-7 singles record as a senior. He now shares his love for the game as a tennis pro at The Country Club of Jackson.
