From Gulfport, Tavon has fully embraced campus life. He is an active member of the Campus Activities Board and recently joined the college’s pickleball team, finding joy in connecting with other students and making the most of his college experience.

Receiving the Dantzler Family Forestry Scholarship has made a tremendous difference in Tavon’s academic journey. “This scholarship has helped my academic pursuits by significantly reducing the financial stress of attending college and allowing me to focus on my classes without worrying about how to pay for school,” he said. “Coming from a family that is not financially fortunate, this scholarship lifted a weight off my shoulders and those of my family.”

Tavon encourages other students to explore scholarship opportunities available through the MGCCC Foundation. “I highly recommend that students take the time to apply for scholarships because they can make a huge difference in covering college expenses, and there are opportunities available for everyone,” he said. “Get involved in campus activities and make the most of your time here. Being active on campus not only makes college more rewarding but also strengthens your chances of earning scholarships at MGCCC and beyond. In the end, it helps you grow as a person and prepares you for life after college.”

The MGCCC Foundation plays a vital role in helping students like Tavon achieve their educational and career goals. Through the generous support of donors, the Foundation provides scholarships, program funding, and other resources that reduce financial barriers and create opportunities for success. Its mission is to enhance the college’s ability to serve students and the community by fostering private support for education, innovation, and growth.

Tavon’s story reflects that mission in action. “The MGCCC Foundation has made an everlasting difference in my life in so many ways I could not imagine,” he shared. “It has contributed to my success by covering the cost of the career path that I want to pursue.”
