It has the third largest economy in the world, is a leader in STEM, host to many jobs with the U.S. Department of Defense, and creator of anime アニメ, selfie stick, bullet trains, and emojis. The people of Japan have one of the highest life expectancies in the world (84) due in large part to their diet and active lifestyle.

Japanese is fast becoming a worldwide language, with about 126 million people speaking Japanese as their native tongue and a growing number of individuals speaking it as a second language in other parts of the world, mainly Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan, Peru, and the U.S.

MGCCC is the only community college in the state of Mississippi with a Japanese program. MGCCC offers two courses in Japanese (MFL 1413) and (MFL 1423). Courses include a look at the culture, people, and written and oral language.
