Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Lillian plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to complete her degree. She also hopes to join MSU’s equestrian team. Her short-term goals include completing her associate degree and continuing for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering with a minor in business. She also wants to secure an engineering internship. Long-term, Lillian aims to start her career in private companies and eventually establish an engineering firm, specializing in designing automotive parts for private companies.
Describing herself as a “jack of all trades,” Lillian has excelled in various subjects but has always been particularly drawn to science and math. Her fascination with understanding how things work and her desire to improve everyday items naturally led her to mechanical engineering. She values the diversity and broad applications of mechanical engineering, which can open doors to numerous career opportunities.
She attributes much of her success and motivation to her high school physics teacher, Dr. Robert Smith, who encouraged her to pursue mechanical engineering. Her mother, Emma Bains, has also been a significant source of support.
“I don’t think I would have considered engineering as a career without the support of Dr. Smith and my mother,” she said. “They offered me the guidance I needed to find a college major that I truly love.”
At MGCCC, she said that Mr. John Miller, who she has worked with in both PTK and the Honors College, has been instrumental in guiding her educational journey. “Mr. Miller is an incredible math instructor and mentor who has helped me grow in both academic pursuits and in assuming leadership roles.”
Lillian looks forward to her second year at MGCCC and the roles she will assume in both PTK and on the Reflections Team. “My time at MGCCC has already been outstanding and I’m looking forward to my sophomore year on campus.”
