Don Hammack portrait

Hammack’s career in sports journalism began long before his time at MGCCC. He spent 17 years at the Sun Herald in Biloxi, where he covered major events such as the Super Bowl, NCAA basketball tournaments, the College World Series, as well as high school and college sports. His coverage of Hurricane Katrina as the disaster blogger helped the paper win the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

Beyond sports, Hammack’s background includes serving five years as a nuclear-trained officer in the U.S. Navy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Mississippi State University and is a passionate advocate for sports history as a member of the Society for American Baseball Research.

Don Hammack’s dedication to both MGCCC and the world of athletics is evident in his tireless efforts to ensure that Bulldog sports remain in the spotlight. His work not only promotes student-athletes but also enriches the college’s athletic community.
