Coach Brad Thornton helping Will Burnham on the golf links.

Under Thornton’s guidance, the Bulldogs have consistently excelled, dominating at both regional and national levels. Last year, they set a school record with 11 tournament victories, demonstrating their skill on the greens. Their remarkable achievements include clinching the 15th district/region championship in the last 16 times contested, a testament to Thornton’s strategic coaching.

Thornton’s own journey in golf mirrors his team’s success. As a former NJCAA All-American and MACJC Championship medalist, Thornton brings a wealth of experience to his coaching role. His transition from player to coach made an immediate impact on the Bulldogs’ performance. In his inaugural season, he steered Gulf Coast to a national runner-up finish, setting the stage for future triumphs.

Thornton’s personal achievements add depth to his leadership. His near miss at qualifying for the U.S. Open in 2023 underscores his skill and determination. He is returning this year, playing in the final round of qualifying for the U.S. Open this week in Alpharetta, Georgia. On top of that, he was named the 2024 East Region Coach of the Year at the NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship banquet held in May.

His role in nurturing talent and fostering a culture of excellence has left its mark on his players, instilling values that carry them through all aspects of life. As a Bulldog in every sense—student-athlete, assistant coach, and now head coach—Thornton’s legacy continues to inspire future generations of champions.
