For over 13 years, Candace has worked in health care as a Respiratory Care Technician. Her journey took a significant turn when she found out about the transition program for Respiratory Therapists at MGCCC. In May, she graduated from the hybrid program, marking an important milestone in her career.
Reflecting on her motivation, Candace shares, “I knew that I needed to be able to better provide for my children.” Her switch to nursing was not merely a career move but a profound commitment to realizing her dreams of working more intimately with patients. Despite the challenges, her passion for health care and determination to enhance her capabilities as a caregiver propelled her forward.
Candace fondly reminisces about her time as a Respiratory Therapist, expressing gratitude for the enriching experiences it afforded her. However, the allure of nursing and its expanded opportunities called to her. She credits MGCCC for providing an exemplary transition program that helped her in her journey to become a registered nurse. “MGCCC has a great transition program with an incredible success rate for students that has allowed me to reach my goal. I am very excited about what lies ahead for me.”
Currently, Candace is getting ready to move to new roles in emergency room nursing at Oschner Health Center in Slidell and medical-surgical nursing at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite, Louisiana. While continuing her duties as a respiratory therapist in these settings, she eagerly anticipates embracing her new positions in the coming weeks.
