Greg Jenkins

Hailing from Dade City, Florida, Jenkins arrived at MGCCC as a preferred walk-on, with much to prove. Reflecting on his time at Gulf Coast, he said, “I can’t even put it into words. It’s a very humbling feeling. I really started from nothing. I had to prove myself and earn trust from the coaches to lead the team.” Jenkins did just that, eventually earning the title of Offensive MVP in the inaugural Mississippi Bowl. In that game, Jenkins led Gulf Coast to a resounding 41-7 victory over Georgia Military College in 2008, cementing his place as a key player in Bulldog history.

During his two seasons at MGCCC from 2008 to 2009, Jenkins threw for almost 3,500 yards and an impressive 37 touchdowns. His leadership and playmaking ability helped guide the Bulldogs to a state championship in 2008, solidifying his legacy at the college.

After his time at MGCCC, Jenkins continued his football career at Alabama State, where he transitioned to the quarterback position. At Alabama State, he completed nearly 60 percent of his passes, throwing for 3,166 yards and 20 touchdowns while also rushing for 837 yards and 15 touchdowns. His versatility and athleticism made him a dual-threat quarterback and a dynamic leader on the field.

Jenkins’ talent eventually earned him a spot in the NFL as a free agent signee with the Oakland Raiders in 2013. During his rookie season, he played in six games, returning 10 kickoffs for 221 yards and six punts for 49 yards. One of his career highlights came when he scored a touchdown by scooping up a fumbled kickoff by the Dallas Cowboys and running it in for a score.

Unfortunately, Jenkins faced setbacks due to injuries. He missed the 2014 season after tearing his abductor muscle and later undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot. Though he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015, a high ankle sprain prevented him from making an impact with the team.

Despite the challenges, Jenkins’ journey from a walk-on at MGCCC to the NFL serves as an inspiration. His induction into the Mississippi Bowl Hall of Fame is a testament to his incredible work ethic and his contributions to the game, particularly during his time at Gulf Coast. Jenkins’ legacy as one of the top players in MGCCC football history continues to inspire future generations of Bulldogs.
