Hold onto your seats, music enthusiasts, because a sensational extravaganza is about to hit the stage! The thunderous drums, the blaring horns, and the electrifying energy of the 188-member Band of Gold are gearing up to captivate the crowd like never before. Get ready to be swept off your feet as the pride of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College unveils its most daring, dynamic, and dazzling show yet: Glam Rock and The Music of Hair Bands. The grand reveal is set to take place during halftime at MGCCC’s first home game on September 7 at A.L. May Memorial Stadium in Perkinston.

Prepare to be transported back in time as the Band of Gold takes you on a journey through the iconic sounds of the Glam Rock era and the unforgettable hits of Hair Bands. From the rebellious anthems of Motley Crue to the theatrical masterpieces of Alice Cooper, the high-energy melodies of Twisted Sister to the timeless classics of Bon Jovi and White Snake – every note promises an explosive fusion of nostalgia and excitement. And the best part? You’re not just a spectator, you’re an integral part of the show as the irresistible tunes will have you singing along with the entire stadium!

Dr. James Standland, director of Bands, shared his dedication to perfection. “From early in the morning to after dark, our talented performers have poured their heart and soul into mastering every note. We’re not just presenting a show. We’re crafting an unparalleled experience, and we’re determined to bring our A-game to every halftime performance.”

But the devotion doesn’t stop there – the Band of Gold’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the spotlight. With an intense summer camp that’s spanned 72 hours and ongoing daily rehearsals, these passionate musicians are proving that dedication knows no bounds. They’re not just creating music; they’re forging memories, honing skills, and pushing boundaries.

What makes this ensemble even more extraordinary? The unwavering support that keeps the flame of their passion alive. They receive full-tuition Performance and Service-Based Scholarships, as do the Perkettes and other students who serve the college in some way. Their hard work isn’t just recognized; it’s rewarded with the priceless gift of a debt-free future. Standland said, “Our students are embracing the challenges, embracing the music, and thriving. Leaving our community college with dreams fulfilled and debts nonexistent or at least very small – it’s an unparalleled triumph!”

And speaking of triumph, this year the band has three outstanding drum majors leading the charge: Karlee Moore, Jassed Rodriguez, and Sydney Smallwood. Their spirited guidance is the heartbeat of the Band of Gold. And let’s not forget the powerhouse section leaders: from the mesmerizing flute melodies of Evie French to the soul-stirring clarinet tones of Jeremy Pineda, from the soaring saxophone prowess of Sheldon Montgomery to the triumphant trumpet calls of Aliza Vetter and Olivia Walker – every leader ignites the stage with their passion.  Those awe-inspiring leaders also include Zoie Boyd, mellophone, Emily Robin, trombone; Terry Sprouse, baritone; Cade Cochran, tuba; Kenyan Buckner, battery percussion; Leleaha Falany, sideline percussion; Regan Byrd, flag captain; Liberty Varner, flag co-captain; Preslei Hines, rifle captain; Lexi McKissick, rifle co-captain; and Bella Fay Summerville, Caroline Hairston, and Devin Graham, Perkette captains.

The excitement doesn’t end when the fall semester closes its curtains. The spirit of music endures as students dive into the exhilarating world of the MGCCC Jazz Band and other ensembles. The MGCCC Jazz Band Scholarship, an incredible opportunity for these hardworking and talented students, is in its fundraising stage through the MGCCC Foundation.
