With their encouragement and the college’s policy of offering tuition-free classes to employees and their families, Laura found the impetus to enroll in courses and complete her associate degree in Business Management and Marketing. “It was not always easy to work full-time and attend classes, but I received so much support from everyone at the college and my family,” she said. “I would encourage anyone who is thinking about going back to college to just make it happen. It is worth the hard work.”
Laura’s determination paid off as she transitioned into a role as a communications specialist working in the college’s call center. She now serves as a finance clerk and continues to advance her career at the Harrison County Campus. Laura’s journey was not without its challenges. She initially tried college several years before at William Carey University while working in retail, but it didn’t work out. Nevertheless, she never lost the desire to attend college.
“Now, my husband is urging me to continue for my bachelor’s degree. It is something I plan to do eventually, but I think I want to settle into my new job position first!” she shared.
Laura Glenn Rautenberg’s story is a testament to the power of mentorship, the support of a nurturing community, and the determination to achieve one’s goals. Her journey at MGCCC serves as an inspiration to anyone contemplating returning to college and underscores the positive impact of both education and encouragement.
