During his time at MGCCC, Chet was deeply involved in student life, participating in the Student Government Association, Tri Campus Council, Mississippi Sound, Sound Waves, and the Perk Players. He even became the voice of the Band of Gold during halftime shows. Managing such a busy schedule was a “crash course” in balancing responsibilities, but Chet thrived in it. His experiences at MGCCC cemented his career path and passion for music and theater.

“College truly shaped the direction I took,” says Chet. After graduation, he went on to work with Disney and a cruise line, allowing him to dive deep into the world of entertainment. “I loved music and theater, and I knew it would always be an important part of my life. Mentors like Kathryn Lewis, David Dueitt, and Daisha Walker were key to my growth, and I’ll always cherish that.”

A standout memory for Chet during his time at MGCCC was his participation in the production of The Yellow Boat, a play about AIDS awareness. “It was more than just theater. It helped us and the community understand the impact of AIDS,” he reflects. Meeting the writer of the play and learning from him was a powerful and educational experience.

Chet also fondly remembers homecoming as one of the highlights of his college life. “We loved it. I painted my face and was all in when it came to cheering on the team. It’s a memory I’ll always cherish.”

Today, Chet continues to give back to his alma mater. He leads Sounds of the Holidays show, held at the Immersive Media Performing Arts Center at the college’s Harrison County Campus in Gulfport. The show provides scholarships to students in the arts through the MGCCC Foundation. “Scholarships have a far-reaching impact—not just on students, but on their families. I’m proud to be part of something that can change lives.”

Chet’s career has brought him back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he now works at WLOX as a lifestyle show host and media executive. After an 18-year career that took him to Disney Creative Entertainment, Royal Caribbean Productions, and more, Chet returned home to Biloxi in 2019. Since joining the WLOX team, he has become a familiar face on shows like Good Morning Mississippi, WLOX News Now at Midday, and The Cue. Outside of his media career, Chet sings with the Coast Big Band and participates in local theater productions.

In his free time, Chet cherishes moments with his family and serves as captain of the Krewe of Neptune. His deep connection to the Coast, both personally and professionally, has made him a key figure in the region’s entertainment and media landscape. Chet Landry’s journey is a testament to the lasting impact of community, education, and the arts.
