The Perkettes Dance Team of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College visited the South Mississippi Regional Center – Wiggins Community Homes for a football season kickoff celebration on Sept. 5. The dance team held a meet-and-greet with the residents and staff, handing out poms and footballs. Perkette Belita Rojas sang the national anthem, and the team danced to several big-band tunes and performed its halftime feature show.

“The Wiggins Community Homes are very supportive in our college events, including football games, and the residents have attended several of our fine arts events on campus as well,” said Stacy Fore, who leads the Perkettes. “The staff decorated the facility and had wonderful refreshments welcoming us.  It was a fun opportunity for the team to visit with the residents, to entertain and to spread Bulldog spirit in the community.”

Wiggins Community Homes, a community residential services program of the South Mississippi Regional Center, provides for the needs of older persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.

“Wiggins Community Homes are so very thankful for the individualized attention our residents received from the MGCCC Perkettes,” said Holly Sholar, Wiggins Community Homes director. “Our clients and staff had a great time listening to the national anthem and watching the dance routines during their recent visit. We are so very appreciative of the generous spirit of the Perkettes and all of the staff at MGCCC. It is collaborative relationships like these that enrich the lives of our residents.”
