Elizabeth Huffmaster art exhibit to open at Jefferson Davis Campus
Elizabeth Huffmaster’s “Something Old, Something New” art exhibition will be on display at the Fine Arts Gallery at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Campus in Gulfport November 16-December 11. A reception will be held at noon on November 17 with refreshments and a live guitar and vocal performance featuring MGCCC student Hadley Hill.
Huffmaster, from Saucier, chooses to work in are watercolor, gouache and acrylics. She paints on traditional heavyweight watercolor paper and has recently introduced watercolor canvas and Yupo paper to her body of work. The bold use of color and whimsical subject matter is what appeals to most collectors as well as her signature white lines in each piece.
Her venture into abstraction is the subject of her show at the Jefferson Davis Campus. The show will feature pieces from her new style along with her traditional pieces.
“As an artist, my style is always evolving. I find myself wanting to explore new subjects constantly. I recently ventured ‘out of my box’ by putting aside my beloved watercolors to do some totally different work in the form of acrylic abstracts,” she said of her inspiration for the new series. “However, I did not abandon my traditional bold colors and whimsy. I still managed to gravitate back to nature in the form of trees and flowers, which have always been a staple of my work.”
Gallery hours are Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
