Concert Choir
Concert Choir is a mixed ensemble open to all students on the Jackson County campus. The choir meets Monday-Thursday from 1:00-1:53 and performs mostly traditional repertoire at the major choir concerts throughout the year (Fall, Winter, Spring). This year Concert Choir will be performing alongside the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, the Hattiesburg Choral Union, and the Gulf Coast Civic Chorale in a monumental performance of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff (March 2025).
The JC Concert Choir is open to all students and operates both as an academic course (1.0 credit hour) and a student organization. As a student organization, the Concert Choir participates in fundraisers, on-campus activities and community outreach.
Music Theatre Workshop
Music Theatre Workshop is a performance-based class that encompasses all aspects of music theatre production. Fall semester workshop focuses on a Scenes Review of chosen repertoire from Broadway classics to Contemporary to Opera and Operetta. Spring semester puts on a touring show for local elementary schools and mounts a mainstage musical production on the JC campus. Students participate in writing and editing scripts, designing and creating costumes, learning and performing vocal solos, duets, and ensembles. Many students also help design and build set pieces and direct staging or choreography. This class (1.0 credit hour) affords music majors, theatre majors, and students in other major areas the opportunity to collaborate and learn about music theatre production and performance in an incubator environment.
One A-Chord
One A-Chord (select ensemble) is the a cappella ensemble on the Jackson County campus. This ensemble is a smaller group that performs a variety of contemporary and traditional repertoire including pop, rock, spirituals and more. The group frequently performs on campus for events like Bulldog Day and Veterans Day, and off campus at a variety of places in the community.
Each member must audition to be selected. Auditions are held the previous semester.
Auditions
Auditions are currently open for all students and scholarship funds are available. Students must be prepared for a 10-minute, one-on-one audition. An Audition Date will be set for the 2025-2026 school year sometime in April. Check back for more information about this day and guarantee your opportunity for a scholarship.
