About the Program

Construction Management Technology is an instructional program designed to prepare technicians for employment within the construction industry. In the program, students learn about construction tools and materials, CAD software, plan interpretation, industry specific safety standards, construction layout and jobsite management, leadership and management skills, cost estimation, and building codes.

Job Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction managers can expect to make a median salary of $106,980 per year or $51.43 per hour across the U.S. Job outlook over the next 10 years is that the occupation should grow by 9% (much faster than average).

Career Opportunities

Students will be prepared for entry in mid-level management operations in positions like:

  • Project managers
  • Cost estimators
  • Quality Control Manager
  • Building inspector
  • Material or layout specialist
  • Residential or commercial contractor

Individuals currently employed as professionals will enhance their ability to perform their duties in the construction business.

Degree Options and Requirements

The Construction Management Technology program leads to an Associate of Applied Science Degree and is preparatory for employment upon graduation from MGCCC. Where a transfer to a four-year college or university is desired, a conference should be scheduled with an MGCCC advisor. Classes are offered in Choice and Online formats to accommodate student work schedules. Choice courses allow students to CHOOSE to attend in person, in real time via video conferencing, or by completing work online in their own time.

+ SPT 2173- Interpersonal Communication is recommended; economics, psychology, sociology, marriage and family, or human growth and development.

# MAT 1033 – Technical Mathematics, MAT 1313/1314 – College Algebra or Higher; however, MAT 1723 – The Real Number System and MAT 1733 – Geometry, Measurement, and Probability are not applicable or Any Lab Science.
